How to Install phpBB Email.

Post by AndyBennett » Tue Oct 23, 2018 12:41 pm

I'm having trouble trying to follow the setup instructions below...

https://hostadvice.com/how-to/how-to-in ... ed-server/

Specifically the part about 'board-wide emails'. I'm not clear what mechanism is used to actually send the emails? Has phpBB got it's own, internal system to handle the sending, (i.e. like a sendmail clone or similar), or does it just use an existing service like gmail or whatever. I WANT to use an internal system, obviously, as it gives the warning that the password is sent in plaintext so I don't want to use my own gmail account or whatever.

What am I misunderstanding here?

There are two ways, one is using the native PHP sendmail and the other is SMTP which relies on the correct information from the host supplying the SMTP. If, as you say, you want to use the native sendmail you can follow the second part of this: Knowledge Base - EMAIL - Easy setup (NOT SMTP).

There are no ‘threads’ in phpBB, they are topics.
