Upgrade problems (3.1.2 - 3.2.2)

Post by a[c]e » Mon Nov 12, 2018 1:57 pm

Hi

I have been trying for days to upgrade my forum from 3.1.2 to 3.2.2, without luck.

I feel I have tried everything, but I am stuck!

I downloaded the complete package, and followed every instruction found here: https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3 ... upgrade31/

However, when everything is uploaded and I point my browser to the install-folder and push "Update", I get a list of "Deleted files". I can't figure out what to do, as these files are not currently on the server, they are deleted?!? Are they specified in the config.php or somewhere else and causing problems?

If I try to push "Update" on the bottom, I only get a timeout after less than a minute. Server host doesn't allow root commands, but maybe this is possible somehow via FTP?

Please help!!

Please don't give your hosting account details (nor an admin account) just like that to anyone.
Use the SRT (https://www.phpbb.com/support/srt/) and give as much detail as possible (especially how you upgraded) so that the number of extra questions can be kept to a minimum.

Out of interest why are you updating to 3.2.2 when 3.2.3 is the latest version?

and, if you are getting those lists of changed files you are either trying to use the auto update instead of the full package or,
you need to backup the folder named store and then remove everthing from it on the server and then run the database update again.

The topic starter did mention that he downloaded the full package and followed every instruction at https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3 ... upgrade31/ and that document doesn't mention any auto-update.
Hence my request for more info on wat he did exactly

oops, I got posts confused. I thought he had said that he used the auto update first.
sorry for the confusion.

however, the only way to get the list of changed files is if you are either using or did try to use the other update methods before.

Yeah I was wondering if any files could be stuck somewhere to make it believe I tried something else. Can I delete the “Store” folder or will this disrupt things?

And I am trying to update to 3.2.3, not 3.2.2. Typo, sorry :(

Agreed, which is why I'm requesting more info (a lot more).

I have tried to use the auto update before, but thought I deleted everything. But obviously not. Where can I find the files to delete?

make a copy of the folder named store.

then upload a new copy of that folder from your full 3.2.3 package you downloaded from here.

then try the database update again.

remember, click, the update tab, then click the update button, then you should get the page that says update database only and click that button.

What is the content of the “Store” folder?

That's something you should know. The point is that you should copy it (or rename it), so as not to lose anything which was put there after installation e.g. backups (a clean installation has only .htaccess and index.htm).

normally the only thing that would be there is a list of the migration files that take place during an update and/or database backups.

and a couple of other files.

the migration files , I think, are the ones that will make the update think it is still using the auto update method.
there are some extensions that create folders/files in the store folder as well.

however, by making a backup of the folder and replacing it with the default you will be safe.
if there was anything in that folder that you need you can always copy it back from the backup you made.
