How too close/ turn off a member?

Post by Affin » Fri Nov 16, 2018 2:59 pm

Now I do not mean banning a member to always say without shutting down a member in a week?

I think you might need to try explaining that again as it does not make sense.

Using advanced deciphering tools, my educated guess is that your aim is to restrict a specific member to "reading only" for the duration of a a week.

Make a group with restricted permissions (NEVER) and add that member to the group, and remove him from that group when you feel the time is right.

If you mean you want to turn off an account

admin panel
manage users
enter their name
in the quick tools choose deactivate account

That will turn it off, the person can't log in and all of their posts will stay in place
If you want it back on again just select activate account in the same place

Do not know how I can explain better, you do not have that kind of stabbing. You only ban people here, as I know, there are no shutdowns on time. But if I say this: I commit a violation here and get a shutdown for a week. Then I can not log in, but it should be possible to read the forum as a guest. Hope you understand what I mean.

That is not true.
KevC proposed a solution which will limit that member's possibilities to those of a guest.
My solution offers a way to give that member some more possibilies (e.g. reading a forum a guest is not allowed to view, reading PMs, it's up to you to decide on his permissions)).

Does anyone understand what I mean? No one who did that in his forum?

Both of the options described will do that.

They can't log in with the way I suggested.
With Warmweer's they can log in but they are restricted in what they can do, i.e. they can only read.

Ok I understand, but while the member is turned off, I want to be "turned off" on his "title" when the shutdown ends, it will be a member again. I know it sounds strange in many ears, but it's on many forums, someone has probably seen it.

My take is the OP is asking to ban a member for a specific period, i.e. one week, and then have the ban automatically lifted. If that is correct, the functionality exists in Moderator Control Panel->Banning.

It looks like this (click for big):

If it's on many forums, then give an example so that it's clear to us. Currently 3 possible solutions have been given, the last one being "banning for a specified duration". All three are standard functionalities of a phbBB board.

Yes, I know that, but I wonder more, when you turn off the member, I want it turned off and not a member while the member is turned off. How do it this?

It turns off the account.

The person can then only visit as a guest. All of their posts and profile stays intact.
When you want to let them back in you just turn the account on again.
