db upgrade question

Post by Curmudgeon »

Upgraded from 3.1.x

It is telling me I need to go to the updater, selected "upgrade db only" but I do not see that as an option.
It won't allow me to do anything but click the update button for all from the install folder.

Warning I'm getting:
Incomplete update
We noticed that the last update of your phpBB installation hasn’t been completed. Visit the database updater, ensure Update database only is selected and click on Submit. Don't forget to delete the "install"-directory after you have updated the database successfully.

I cannot just select the "Update database" I can only click on the update button.

Sure I've missed something simple.

I'm currently trying to find the procedure for manually accomplishing this.

Thanks

somemore information is needed. Use the SRT (https://www.phpbb.com/support/srt/).
Not sure what you're doing, but hopefully it's not the autoupdate.
If you're upgrading to 3.2.x go to install/app.php and select update_database (something similar to that) (it's not on the first page).
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

what happens when you click on that big "update" button at the bottom of the page you showed above?

click on that, on the next page you should see a message about updating the database only, click on that.

The picture immediately point to the cause.

Make sure you have the correct files for the version you want to upgrade to.It's best to reupload a new set of files (read the documentation).
Should you not follow the procedure described, then
replace your install directory by a new one (from the download)
delete from /cache: the directories /installer and /production
delete from /store: io_lock.lock + any files with names migrationXXXX

go to install/app.php and do database update

There is no "module" subdirectory in the 3.2.4 pkg so not on server either.

I did find the "language.php" but not in the specified path.

So I can just copy the file to the proper subdir?

That's not what I said (at all).
The error is that you used autoupdate which should only be used for minor version updates (hence "update") . You are going from 3.1 to 3.2 and that's an upgrade.
Full package is the way to go. What I said about removing some specific files was to ensure that you would know about it, in case you decided to overwrite with the full package, instead of replacing.
BTW don't overwrite your config.php

edited for spelling mistakes, missing letters, etc..

I didn't use autoupdate until after I got the error and couldn't select the database part of it.

In either case still a missing path/subdirectory.

It doesn't matter. Now you have to use the full files package and update database (through install.app). (and make sure that the files I mentioned are removed).

What I would do (but is strictly speaking not necessary) is to:
check the config_table, set the version back to the version you upgraded from (3.1.2)
migrations_table: Remove all entries higher than your start version (so anything above 3.1.2 would be removed) (again this is my personal advice, not endorsed by phpBB).

added: you might want to apply the fixes for 3.2.4 (see the sticky Known Isuues in 3.2.4) before the upgrade.

Sorry for the delay, decided to finish my redoing my living room.

Ready to tackle this again now.

I restored my 3.1.2 forum & have followed the update procedure for 3.2.4 it again.

I have NOT hit the "Update" for any part of it.

It isn't letting me selected the "Update database" option.

There should be an update button somewhere This wil take you to the next page where you can choose database update.

BTW, immediately after upgrading: be sure to apply the fixes for 3.2.4 mentioned in viewtopic.php?f=556&t=2492371.
Alternatively you could apply the fixes before upgrading.

Never figured out how to get there to update the db & no one ever responded with a manual way to do the update. I'm just going to start from scratch.

Now, I'm not a programmer, the guy who did had to quit to address his own health issue. This sort of thing has never been more than a hobby, no fees ever charged, no advertising...just talk.

The "fix" you linked to, do I just save those to a file of the same name and put them into the proper path/directory or do I need to edit files of that name? I am not clear on that. This is all I have left to do, the new system is up, running and waiting for me to flesh it out.

I will be tackling learning some programming in the near future my own education, phpbb & for some robotics or delving into the Python arena.

btw, Thanks for your assistance & patience in this.

There is a link to 2 files to download: those 2 files are the fixed ones, and should replace the 2 files with the same names (bbcode.php and functions_content.php, both in/incudes IIRC)
