when you did the update did you follow the instructions and make a backup of all the files?

did you follow the instructions and leave the config.php file and the files/images and store folders on the server and replace all the others?

if not, did you upload the images folder back using filezilla without making sure it was set to binary and not to ascii?

I think he's talking about this: Knowledge Base - Transferring attachment files with Filezilla
Yes, but my question is, if i transfer my archives in filezilla to computer, this "checked" needs uncheck too?

Yes, use binary transfers in every case.

I don't want to start a new topic, but after upgrading to 3.2.7 I hit exactly the issue described here:
viewtopic.php?t=2361326
That topic is closed and it does not contain proper solution. That is not good, because google sends it as the first search result to the issue (the last post gives rather radical solution).

The issue is well described here:
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/332 ... e-not-corr
phpbb/web server adds one extra byte (#0a) at the beginning of avatar files.

The solution is very simple - check config.php and remove all white spaces before <? and after ?> I spent whole day tracking down the issue. Hope it helps someone.

remove all white spaces before <? and after ?>
There should be no closing php-tag ?> in any phpBB file - it can exist in config.php when upgraded from a old version, but you can safely delete it.

Characters before the opening tag <?php usually happens because someone edit a phpBB-file with a wrong or misconfigured text editor which inserts a so called Byte Order Mark (BOM) into the file

or simply by making errors when editing for both cases: characters before the opening tag and after the closing tag

Thanks for more info of the proper format of config.php.

Still, this is quite nasty issue - it is not obvious that the reason for avatars not showing up are white spaces in config.php. What is even worse, some avatars still works ok (probably png files). Unfortunately, it seems that the author of this topic
viewtopic.php?t=2361326
didn't find this info.

Probably in the future config.php should change into some yaml or env file.

When installing phpBB, editing of the config.php is done through the installer and won't introduce an format error.
Whenever humans need to edit the files themselves, introducing errors is possible, whether it's php, YAML or whatever.
My board's not broken, it just went peculiar
