Why? What difference does it make? What information do you think they will gain from knowing IP addresses?

There is no way to do this with phpBB out of the box I'm aware of, you'd have to make edits to the core files or the templates. If you are comfortable with making those edits click the button to report your original post and and request to have it moved to the custom coding section.

You can also make request for an extension here. viewforum.php?f=496

There is variety of reasons someone may want to do this, IP typically won't give you much information but that is not always the case..

I cannot think of any cases where an IP address could divulge any "useful" information and certainly not with IPv4 - IPv6 maybe. Anyway I would contend that if you cannot trust a Moderator with that information then they should not be Moderators.

An IP address "can" point to an approximate location (quite broad, but certainly a country or state) or to the company one works for (which is something to take into account when a policeman is trying to infiltrate a criminal gang ;) ).

Take me for example: I'm from the Van Allen belt but my IP states otherwise ;-)

If it's just some random IP assigned by your ISP it's largely irrelevant. If it's specific IP assigned to your business, workplace or whatever that is much more specific and information someone may not want available.

Hold on, now you also want to hide moderator IPs?
Whatever you would want, phpBB has no default feature to do that so an extension or some custom coding is needed.
Also keep in mind that IPs can be shown in many pages.

Well, for one, an extension developer probably wants to know precisely what is wanted/needed. That's a good reason for asking questions.
In this case, you have twice added a "feature" and the way I see it, such an extension could well include a permission system like who is allowed to see IPs, or which user's IPS cannot be seen by which groups(or members). Knowing the full scope is sometimes (if not most of the time) required in order to define the design.

For example, If you have only 1 account, it's quite easy to replace your IP in all tables with ::1 or 127.0.01, but your other accounts (in this case) will still point to the same person, ad replacing all of them with ::1 is a dead give away. But that is static data, the whoisonline shows current data (with a small lag) so preventing viewing IP in viewonline solves that problem, except that you want your moderators to see IPs. In this case my first option would be useful (preventing IPs to be seen in viewonline, and changing the IPs for your accounts).
But again, is it worth it? Why do you have 4 accounts which shouldn't be known anyway - sounds like sock puppet syndrome
