I said COPY not INSTALL
Copy on 2. Install on 3. I did 2, now I'm trying to do 3.

Forget everything, let's start from the scratch. Max PHP 5.6.x here.

1 - create a new DB and fill it with the 3.0.9's backup
2 - copy all the files of a fresh 3.0.14 and the old config.php file which should be amended with the new DBname, DBpassword.
3 - run the install/database_update (now you are on 3.0.14)
4 - run the STK for 3.0.14 and clean up the updated DB
5 - upgrade to 3.2.5 following the right procedure which has been already posted somewhere in this topic.
6 - switch to a newer PHP version max 7.2.x.

End of the story. :)

And what my instructions say?
Do you mean that I should not start with a database with a phpbb install but an empty database?

.... and use PHP 5.6 to begin with.
Moreover, I posted the correct workflow, take your time and follow it to the letter.

If you will do you'll get this story finished.

So, created a new database, did not install phpbb, imported the backup.

Now @ 2: there is now no config.php in the public_html directory since I did not install phpbb. Where do I now get the 'old config.php'?

There is no previous install. You told me to start from scratch, create an empty database and no phpbb install.

See here then: https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3 ... gphp-file/

But use this template and change data accordingly to your present DB.

Code: Select all

<?php
// phpBB 3.0.x auto-generated configuration file
// Do not change anything in this file!
$dbhost = 'localhost';
$dbport = '';
$dbname = 'marcekn349_php66';
$dbuser = 'marcekn349_php66';
$dbpasswd = 'xxxxxxx';
$table_prefix = 'phpbb_';
$dbms = 'mysqli';
$acm_type = 'file';
$load_extensions = '';

@define('PHPBB_INSTALLED', true);
@define('DEBUG', true);
@define('DEBUG_EXTRA', true);

Okay, created a new config.php. Uploaded that + all files (except config.php) from 3.0.14 package to public_html. Then browsed to http://funeralpolka.nl/install/database_update.php

But it still does nothing. Completely empty screen, like before.

That's a 500 which is a server error, you should look at the server's error log, ask your host in case.

http://prntscr.com/mx28a8

Also, make sure you saved your config.php file in UTF-8 no boom, using an editor like Notepad++

Okay, I didn't see your edit for the template there at first. I've used that and made another config.php

Now when I try to update it tells me

Code: Select all

No language found!

Let me investigate..

Ok, is clear to me that your old board still has not English language set in the DB.

Code: Select all

$sql = "SELECT config_value
	FROM " . CONFIG_TABLE . "
	WHERE config_name = 'default_lang'";
$result = $db->sql_query($sql);
$row = $db->sql_fetchrow($result);
$db->sql_freeresult($result);

$language = basename(request_var('language', ''));

if (!$language)
{
	$language = $row['config_value'];
}

if (!file_exists($phpbb_root_path . 'language/' . $language))
{
	die('No language found!');
}
What's the config value for default_lang in the config table?

So, use this query to set to "en" the language so you can go ahead this time:

UPDATE phpbb_config SET config_value = 'en' WHERE phpbb_config.config_name = 'default_lang';

In phpmyadmin / SQL tab. Change phpbb_ to your prefix if different (see config.php).
