Subscription Notifications -I'm invisible

Post by Morgain » Thu Mar 14, 2019 6:12 am

I have posted several questions and received excellent support - thank you, lovely community.

But although those topics show I am Subscribed under the toolbar icon top of each, the replies did not show up under my Notifications on the bar top right.
There is also another topic I replied to, not there, with more posts on it since. Not there.
'Notifications' just shows the approval on my first post. Clicking 'Show All' makes no difference.

I also tried to access my activity by searching on my username (both with capital letter and without). No search results.
Yet when I tested by searching on another username recently posting there were relevant results.

So how do I check my topics - new or replies - to see how they are doing?

assuming that you are talking about this board here, did you go to your profile and set your notifications the way you want themd?

even if you are talking about your board, the same thing is true. you have to actually set that type of notifications you want if any.

On my UCP under Manage Subscriptions, it says
You are not subscribed to any topics.

But on each of the topics where I started it, or replied to it if I click the tool icon top left it shows Subscription is ticked.

Quick links shows my earlier topics but not this one. Curious.

The Topic Tool shows Subscription as ticked so I thought I was Subscribed.
When I UNTICKED it the message says I am now Subscribed.
Curious.

I'd prefer to be Subscribed by default if I either start a topic or Reply to one.
Then if I reply and don;t want to be subscrbed, or my starter topic has satisfied what I need, I can Unsub locally.

I don't have this. Are your preferences in your UCP set to get notifications?

ucp.php?i=ucp_notifications&mode=notification_options

It's a wrong interpretation of the subscribe / unsubscribe icon, you need to read the text to the letter. It is a action, not a state description. See also this discussion: http://area51.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic ... 99&t=63096

Well I'm obviously not alone that I find this confusing. Thank you.
I will find a way to reverse the code.

Well that could be corrected by changing the phrase to NOT SUBSCRIBED.

But I still dont understand where in my UCP can I set it so I am automaticaly subscribed if I start a topic, or reply to one?
I shouldn't have to do this manually for every topic.

have a look at this set of options : posting defaults

Notify me upon replies by default can be set to yes & saved.
that should help !

Then we would get lots of posts from people thinking they're already subscribed when they aren't. You have to choose some sort of wording that fits. That is not a list of settings (otherwise you would have already bookmarked, emailed and printed the topic), it's a list of options.
(would you like to) subscribe to the topic
(would you like to) bookmark the topic
(would you like to) email the topic
(would you like to) print the topic

Setting it to a default for every user would constitute 'spam'. For every option you want on by default, if it was that way out of the box we would get dozens of posts asking how to turn it off. You can't please everyone all of the time so one set of options has to be decided on. It just happens that your specific situation doesn't fit those defaults so you'll need to set them up.

Ah that's grand, thanks everyone. It was that UCP setting I needed.
Board preferences, Edit posting defaults, Notify me upon replies by default.
I hope I can set that for all my members as a working team as it's not that easy to identify. I can put in a welcome email how to disable it.

@Kevc - misunderstanding. When I said 'I shouldn't have to do this manually for every topic' I meant I should be able to set it for all my posts in the UCP. As for changing the phrase in Topic Tools I meant on my own board I'd expect to be able to edit that phrase to make it clearer.
