Wrong url in update documentation?

Post by bacon tacon » Sat May 25, 2019 12:59 pm

On the documentation page for installs and updates of phpBB 3.2: https://www.phpbb.com/support/documents ... pdate_auto there is a section on Updating from stable releases of phpBB 3.2.x
Within this, the final instructions in the paragraph titled 4.iv. Automatic update package reads:
Point your browser to the install directory, for example http://www.example.com/phpBB3/install/
I used that link yesterday and got into a mess because the software was attempting an install.
Shouldn't the link for an update be to http://www.example.com/phpBB3/install/app.php/update

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place, but it's not a bug and I'm not sure it's a support request.

I used that link yesterday and got into a mess because the software was attempting an install.
That happens only if you did overwrite by accident the config.php

No, I was careful not to do that.

The only time it would think it's doing a new installation is if it asks you for the database information and if it does that then the config.php file is blank.

As I recall, it didn't ask for database info but did ask for path to phpBB and FTP host.

That's a standard part of the auto update process where it wants to connect to your site to up and download the merged files.

As you're unlikely to have made any core file edits the best way to update is simply with a file replacement as mentioned in the first reply.
