Upgrading from 3.2.2 to 3.2.7

Post by sopas » Mon Jun 24, 2019 12:43 am

Just a quick question.

When upgrading from 3.2.2 to 3.2.7, and since I don't have many MODs installed on my forum, would it be OK to do the following:

1) Download the 3.2.7 full package and then upload ALL files to my server except the following files/folders:

config.php
/ext
/images
/files
/store

2) Then, go to: mysite.com/install/

Let that run and then delete the install folder.

Would that be OK?

I only have a couple of MODs (basically manual file edits), so it won't be a problem for me to manually edit them again when the upgrade is finished.

Thanks in advance for your time.

I have also noticed that on my current 3.2.2 /ext folder there is only one file, that is the index.htm.

However in the new 3.2.7 /ext folder there is and additional /phpbb folder with a /viglink folder within with lots of other files there.

Should I keep my old /ext folder or upload the new one?

I just delete the cache, vendor and phpbb folder from my server, and then upload all new files except the config.php and .htaccess (have some edits in there). You can upload ext, images, store etc without problem, the don't overright your images, extensions etc... because those images, store... folders are empty.

BUT ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP!

When you do style edits, it's better to create a "child" style, and make your edits in that style.

Yes, it makes sense to delete the cache, but why delete the vendor and phpbb folders?

I don't think they need to be deleted first. But I always do that to have a "clean" version. Maybe there are files that are not needed anymore...

yes it is large but you must have a very slow internet. mine is only 1.5 mb upload and it doesn't take quite that long. almost, but not quite.
actually, the best way to update is to follow the official instructions found here:

Thanks for the link to the instructions.
I have not run the install yet, so I will check everything again and follow those guidelines.

I am having trouble deleting the /vendor and /cache folders via FTP. The console says "permission denied".

what permissions are set for those folders?

the cache folder should be set to 777 and the vendor should be set to 755
or, you may need to check with your host to see who the "owner" of the files is . it should be you.

Yes I have permissions set to 777 and 755 respectively but I can not delete anything inside those folders.
I am going to try via CPanel now.

I contacted my host and they deleted the folders for me.
You were right it had something to do with file ownership.
