403 error when accessing the forum

Good morning everyone,

Environment:
phpBB version: 3.2.0
No extensions/mods installed
Locally modified prosilver style
No changes made in the last few months

Description:
The forum suddenly started to show the main page as text+links (without images or tables). When following any of the links (to forums and subforums, faqs, ucp, etc) a 403 error page arises. Other html pages of the site show correctly (images+text)

I've been talking with the host server support which claims that no change has been made on the server side.

I've checked the permissions structure (755 folders, 644 files, 777 for stores, files and images/avatars/upload) and everything seems ok.

I've found .htaccess files in several folders and the one in the main phpBB3 folder (where index.php resides) seems to be unmodified since the installation.

It points to an htaccess/permissions issue but I can't find anything wrong. On the other side, the unformatted presentation of the main page could points to an style issue, which has not been modified for more than one year. I've even thought in ressetting the style to the standard Prosilver but have no way to access to the forum to do it.

What can I do?

Thanks in advance.

This is the second or third similar problem in the last few days - not sure if they are connected (same host?)

Things do not "suddenly happen" - somebody, somewhere has changed something. If you have not changed anything then that only leaves your host and despite their protestations they will have done something. You need to go back to them and ask again (ask for second level support)

A 404 error is saying that you do not have the correct server permissions to access the page - only the hosts can fix it.

Hello,

No, my hosting provider is Midphase. I'll insist again and post anything relevant for our problem ;)

Hi

Yes I am and I have the same problem in four forums I have with them. I didn't start a topic because they have said they have escalated it and I am still waiting. Have you raised it with them? I was on holiday and I believe it started last Thursday or Friday. The usual questions "Have you updated the site?" to which I obviously said NO.

Have any of you had a look at the server error logs?

Same probs. Mine are unformatted so I thought it could be a style problem and I did change to Prosilver but still got 403. Waiting for the host to fix it, if they can.

Just had a look, nothing has appeared there after I just tried. Cannot say how good the error trapping is of course. Sorry nothing to report.

Mention that to your host as well then, there should be entries if you’ve been receiving 403’s.

We're seeing exactly the same issue with UK2.

Same symptoms and started Friday last week.

Good, if you see what I mean. At least I am not alone. Let's hope they fix it soon.

Yes NormNM AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSE we have raised a trouble ticket and escalated it after having a banal (really no idea) reply from a support person named Drax on Saturday following submission in the wee hours of Saturday morning the problem manifested itself late Friday night.
