Fatal error phpBB 3.2.7

Post by Kerrith » Tue Jul 09, 2019 12:31 am

I tried to make our phpBB 3.2.7 forum to be responsive and messed it up. It's working now but I'm getting a "Fatal error" in the ACP > Extensions tab.

Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'RuntimeException' with message 'Failed to obtain latest version information.' in /home2/comcom/public_html/forums/phpbb/version_helper.php:288 Stack trace: #0 /home2/comcom/public_html/forums/phpbb/version_helper.php(227): phpbb\version_helper->get_versions(true, false) #1 /home2/comcom/public_html/forums/phpbb/version_helper.php(206): phpbb\version_helper->get_versions_matching_stability(true, false) #2 /home2/comcom/public_html/forums/ext/board3/portal/includes/version_check.php(79): phpbb\version_helper->get_suggested_updates(true) #3 /home2/comcom/public_html/forums/ext/board3/portal/acp/portal_module.php(163): board3\portal\includes\version_check->check() #4 /home2/comcom/public_html/forums/includes/functions_module.php(674): board3\portal\acp\portal_module->main('\\board3\\portal\\...', 'config') #5 /home2/comcom/public_html/forums/adm/index.php(81): p_master->load_active() #6 {main} thrown in /home2/comcom/public_html/forums/phpbb/version_helper.php on line 288

Got tip?

Thanks Kerry

The error seems to come from board3 portal (https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/exte ... ortal_ext/).
Support for that extension is in https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/exte ... ortal_ext/ and from what I can see it's not made for 3.2 although with some tweaks it does work.
Use this
ext_disable.php
(7.63 KiB) Downloaded 5 times
in phpmyadmin in your browser to disable all extensions in one go to get your board working again (with the portal disabled) until a solution is found. (read the file)
Should the script not function, you can use phpMyAdmin : look at the extensions table, find the record for the board 3 extension and set the field ext_active to 0. empty the /cache directory but for index.htm and .htaccess and your board should be up and running with the board3.

As always, take a backup (with phpMyAdmin) before attempting this.

edited : corrected to use the ext_disable in phpmyadmin .... that should have been .. in the browser

Thanks warmweer,

Do you know someone we could pay to fix it? It's OK if the Portal and Board 3 is deleted.

Before deleting Board3 (I'm under the impression that Board3 is the portal), that extension has to be disabled and your board needs to be functional again. That means using the ext_disable first, then checking whether your board works (empty the /cache before starting up your board) ... if everything seems ok (but don't go lightly on this, check the board thoroughly), then you can delete the extension (from the ACP) and also delete data (if you're not planning on using it again).

However you could post the problem in the extension support problem before deleteing the data - a solution might come).

As for paying someone to do the fixing: see the Wanted! forum but IMHO removing Board3 will restore your board to working order without having to incur any cost. I'ld offer to do it (for free - it's basically 5 minutes "work") but currently have other commitments.

The root of your board (the same place wher you will find your config.php file)

I deleted board3 from the server, purged the cache,* and uploaded ext_disable.php
and got:
General Error
Cannot find module ./../includes/acp/\board3\portal\acp\portal_module.php

BACKTRACE

FILE: (not given by php)
LINE: (not given by php)
CALL: msg_handler()

FILE: [ROOT]/includes/functions_module.php
LINE: 571
CALL: trigger_error()

FILE: [ROOT]/adm/index.php
LINE: 81
CALL: p_master->load_active()

* (empty the /cache before starting up your board) you mean the cache folder with 20+ files?

in phpMyAdmin to disable all extensions in one go to get your board working again (with the portal disabled) until a solution is found. (read the file)
First statement = * Usage: Download and unzip the file, upload it to your Board's root (i.e.: www.mydomain.com/phpBB3/)

Although I now notice I gave the php-file not the zipped one.

Put the Board3 files back.
Then run ext_disable.php.
Then empty the cache directory but leave .htaccess and index.htm.

Put the Board3 files back.
Even though I'm not going to be using it anymore?
Much appreciation for your patience.

Yes, because it has to be disabled properly first before you can remove it. Once it's been disabled you can probably log in to your board and remove it in the ACP.

the cache folder that is part of the main phpBB directory.

you shoul have :

adm
assets
bin'
cache

open that folder in your ftp. delete everything in there except for the index.htm and htaccess files.

then go to your board and refresh your browser.
