New Guy, Limited Experience, Basic Question

I recently got volunteered to set up and run a PHPBB board.

I have it hosted on GoDaddy and used Installatron to install the PHPBB software, but I'm getting an error when I go to the page.

The board is supposed to be here: https://www.bhnptalers.com/talers/

Not sure what all information is needed to help me out here, but my initial assumption is that I need to log in, get to the ACP and actually "activate" the board, set up user accounts, etc.

If someone could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

If you are referring to to the security warning you do not have SSL certificate for that domain, you can't access it over https. You need to access it over http

http://www.bhnptalers.com/talers/

If that is not it you need to provide more details.

It is not recommended to use host installs as the host may have edited the files to suit their hosting plans.
You should use the fileset downloaded from phpBB directly.

The userguide (https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3.2/ug/) should provide ample information to get the board up and running.

edit: I see you've got it up and running already. Good

It is? I'm still getting an error message. Did you use the http://www.bnhptalers/talers/ URL?

it is actually here: http://www.bhnptalers.com/talers/

the link above is a typo.

also, there is no "activation" needed. the board is "activated" when you install it.

however, your best bet is to start over and install using the software from here. the software in the host one click installers is not the same as the software you get here from the creators and this type of problem is often what happens.

I also see your board with no problem right now.
if you do not see it, then you need to at least refresh your browser and maybe use your ftp and delete everything from the folder named cache except for the index and htaccess files.

then, you can read the userguide found in the menu above or in the documentation that comes with the board files from here. that will help you learn how to use the board.
luck,

robert

Click on the first link and then remove the https:// part

No joy. Never could get to the pages some folks here are seeing.

Deleted all my cookies in Chrome - No change.
Tried it in Internet Explorer - No change.

Deleted everything in GoDaddy, downloaded the zip file from here, unzipped it to a folder on my desktop, uploaded uploaded the folder to the domain on GoDaddy via FTP.

Loaded it on another domain that I'm also trying to get up and running, should be at www.countryvisits.com/phpbb3

I can see the files but still can't get the PHPBB main page to open.

Not a clue where to go from here.

there is currently no sign of a phpbb board at any of the links you have posted above.

you have to put the files on the server as in the instructions and then give us a valid url to where they are before we can help you.

the board was there earlier at the first link you posted: http://www.bhnptalers.com/talers/ (without the https )

Your board (3.2.7) is now reachable at http://www.bhnptalers.com (seems you didn't user the /talers/ this time ... that gives a The requested page could not be found.)

Not sure if that's what fixed it, but yeah I can see it now and am getting it set up.

The guy that did this before had it set up so that non-registered visitors didn't see the board, just a "Nothing to see here" page. I'd like to do the same thing as this is intended to be a members-only board.

Any hints on how to do that?

While I'm at it, can anybody see the board at countryvisits.com?

Members have to be able to login and thus visitors need to be able to reach (see and use) the login page. The permission system allows you to define who can see which forums on the board, so edit the forum permissions so that these forums are only visible after login.
