In standard phpBB, their city/state is not recorded. Are you going to use a Custom profile field? Even then, what you want would require an extension.

ok, kinda a search and classified board I am building,......so if your looking in a certain city area for someones craft it shows. To be exact i was building a musicians search board, so if I am in houston posting I am an available guitar player, and someone is looking for a guitar player in the Houston area,......you'd be able to see before opening the ad (topic).

thanks, I have looked for an answer to what I'm trying to do and havnt found what Im trying to accomplish, and if not ok, I'll figure something else out. I could show you what I am talking about with a board I used to use back in the early 2000's ...its since gone and I found it in wayback machine archives..

the first thing you have to do is collect that info.

you do that by creating custom profile fields for city/state.
then you make sure they show up on the register page and on the mini profile on the posting pages. you do that while you are creating them.

also make sure they are required. do that when creating them.

or, if that is too broad of a way to do it, you could create a new section in the posting form that would have to be filled in when posting a for sale item.

that would probably require an extension to be created so you could ask for that in the "extension request" forum.
