"Style" depends on installed styles, user style, board style (default style), override user_style.. If you change the style_id in the database in one place, then everything else relating to the old style has to be changed also. Perhaps you missed a change somewhere.

My suggestion (to save time) is to install your 3.1 backup and remove all styles (they have to be updated anyway) except for prosilver.

edit: try 3Di's suggestion first.
My board's not broken, it just went peculiar

Are you confortable with modifying a PHP file or 2?

This should fix the issue you made: https://github.com/phpbb/phpbb/pull/5671/files
It's fixed now - thank you all!

@3Di : am I correct in thinking that the user_style was an inexistent style and your script updated that to the board default style?
and that override user style may have allowed normal access to fix the problem?

Yes
Fallback to board's default style upon its strict verification.

Overriding user's style doesn't update the user's style in the USERS_TABLE afaik.
Therefore once you set the override back to No the issue will be there again.

Agreed, but perhaps setting the user-style (by the user in the UCP, or by the Admin through the ACP) could correct that. In this situation the user couldn't do it because his inexistent style was still being called.

Anyway, it's a good catch and solution. (I hadn't noticed that ticket).

What if the admin has the wrong style, such in this case?

With the above ticket, if something goes really bad again you will have a nice error report this time.

But should never happen again.
