Upgrade 3.2.5 to 3.2.7 - The requested page could not be found.

Post by lemACD » Mon Sep 09, 2019 5:44 pm

Hi
Followed instructions for Full Package.
Deleted files from package and board as instructed.
Original config.php is still in place.
install folder appears to be in correct place and yet the forum is not disabled as it usually would be.
Running install/app.php results in 'The requested page could not be found.'
Sounds like something not configured correctly to me so that it's using wrong path but can't see anything wrong.
I've tried fiddling with setting for cookies (https://) and checked domain, path, etc. Also tried original and default .htaccess
Forum appears to be working but just can't perform update.
It's like the new files are in the wrong place and yet install/app.php exists, suggesting that install directory is in the right place.
Any ideas please?

Why are you thinking the install folder is on the right place if you get a error that it is not?
https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/forum/install/ nothing there.

This is probably the most important clue, and is pretty much definitively "the files actually aren't uploaded to the correct place." i.e. Where ever the phpBB 3.2.7 files have been successfully uploaded to, it wasn't the actual document directory for https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/forum/.

The https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/forum/ ... GELOG.html and https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/forum/ ... /style.cfg also confirm that the phpBB 3.2.7 full package files have not overwritten these files, either.

Poking around for some easy unintentional mistakes like https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/forum/phpBB3/ or https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/forum/forum/ doesn't reveal where the phpBB 3.2.7 files actually landed. But figuring out the difference between "the directory where the files currently successfully showing you https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/forum/" exist and "the directory the phpBB 3.2.7 full package files are actually uploaded to" definitely seems like the required next step.

Ahh!

https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/forum/install/rubbish

produces the same page!

Must be a trap on missing files somewhere

I thought the page meant that the first file did exist and that it was a subsequent file that didn't!

Thank you very much!

I still don't know what the problem is - the files appear to be in the right place in FTP and cPanel file manager - but at least something makes sense. I'll keep poking.

Well, it's the same FTP link that I use all of the time and I can see other files that I've uploaded recently. I can view it from FTP or cPanel file manager and see the same stuff. I agree that it does seem like it's not the same place as where the forum is running.

It is rather bizarre. I've been staring at it trying to see what I've done wrong but everything looks right.

I'm beginning to wonder whether my uploads are stuck in some buffer or that the hosting company have moved something in some strange way.

Have you looked at your server error logs to see which page cannot be found?

The 3.2.5 seem to be in place but nothing 3.2.7. (EA117 also checked that).

Try changing the name (temporarily) of the /forum in your printscreen to /forum1. Check if your board is still available
If it is then you may have uploaded everything to the wrong place (wrong server? perhaps a test server?).
If it isn't available anymore, then at least we're (almost) sure that is the correct directory (in which case you should rename it back to /forum).
My board's not broken, it just went peculiar

If you're sure that's the right place, and there isn't a different FTP user login or directory for you to test with, then talking to your hosting company about these observations might cut to the chase most efficiently. i.e. Someone who knows or can see exactly everything that does exist in your hosting account's files, and/or knows what the explanation might be for the FTP view you're using not seeing or updating the current live production site files.

OK, I'm quite prepared to find that I'm being stupid.
It does indeed look like the wrong server or something like that.
Renaming the forum directory has no effect, supporting that explanation.
Weird thing is that all of the files are there, including ones uploaded very recently and visible on the public web site.
It's as if someone has copied the whole site to a new location and pointed the domain name at it and yet left a copy of everything in the old location and left my FTP and file manager pointing at the old location.
Is this possible or am I looking for a complicated answer when I'm really just being dumb?

A message is being passed to the hosting company.
I think they did do some kind of server upgrade recently so maybe I need to change my FTP and cPanel to point at a new location.

Thanks for the help all.
