How to create a forum and topic manually through mysql query

Post by Xetal » Tue Sep 10, 2019 2:55 am

Hello there guys, how are you?

Sorry to bother, I searched for over an hour and I didn't find it anywhere.

I have a private phpbb forum.

Is there a way to create a forum and or topic straight from a mysql query inside phpmyadmin?
I know, people will ask, isn't it easy enough to just go to control panel and create a new forum? ...

Well, I want to be able to manipulate the forum from my c# app. I have a separate customer database with schedules, invoices, etc, and I want to be able to for example, create a forum named September 2019, and a topic callled 09 10 2019 Tuesday inside of sad forum for example.

Once I enter the customer into the schedule in my c# app, I want to be able to automate the whole process, rather than doing it manually.

Thank's so much guys!

All things are possible, but necessarily practical.

You can create a script/extension that will do what you want but not via phpMyAdmin. Because of the way many of the tables in phpBB are interlinked just adding a forum or topic into one table will not be the complete picture. There are functions within phpBB that will do all/most of what you want.

in phpBB It's prohibited to use sad forums :P (yeah I know it's a typo  )

As per david63, creating a forum includes many things e.g. giving it a parent (none, Category, forum or even subforum), setting group/user forum permissions , creating the topic, etc...), all these things would have to be taken into account in your SQL(s) for phpMyAdmin. It will most probably require a lot more time to figure out the SQLs than to do it manually (basically once you've got one forum set up exactly as you want it, making a new forum with the same permission settings is quite easy).
My board's not broken, it just went peculiar

Do you know which files contain the create forum / topic procedures script by any chance?

Off the top of my head I would start with function_posting.php
