Update from 3.2.5 to 3.2.8 fails in local

Post by jehem » Wed Oct 23, 2019 10:24 am

Hi,

First of all I have to say I am not a specialist of any of the underlying software. I parameterized my Phpbb forum as a end user. A friend of mine made some changes to the code so I decided to use the update method, not full install.

I am running a local version on Winampserver 3.1.0

While trying to update the code/db from 3.2.5 to 3.2.8, the sequence displays screens with options I do not change, I go further at any step, then a processing takes place and shows result messages, then stops and requires a download of files.

Is the process not supposed to be executed automatically ?

Any help is welcome, thank you in advance

If you’re using the FTP method you have to download the modified files archive recommended, from phpBB, then upload them to the server, it isn’t automatic as such.

What were the code changes that were made?

If they’re minimal Knowledge Base - Updating 3.2.x is the recommended method.

You are using autoupdate, which is too dependent on host settings.
Better use the changed files set (3.2.5 to 3.2.8), see whether files which were modified, are in that fileset. If yes, apply the modifications to the changed filesset and update using those files (meaning uploading the files, then install > update >update database only).

Added: Mick is correct but still, my advice is not to use the autoupdate but to reapply the modifications yourself (it's not entirely unthinkable that your modifications may not work on 3.2.8 and testing the update on localhost before going live is a way to identify a problem before it truly becomes a problem.)
The year is 2192. The British Prime Minister visits Brussels to ask for an extension of the Brexit deadline. No one remembers where this tradition originated, but every year it attracts many tourists from all over the world.

Hi,

For what I know, the changes apply to the style which inherits from Prosilver. Mainly screen colours, and custom dynamic banner.

I thought that I had made something wrong, but if things have to be done manually, I am afraid that I am too dummy to do it, especially when the live forum will have to be migrated.

Please let me check with the friend who helped me, I will try to learn a bit more.

Thank you very much for your time and answers

I wanted to thank you for the support. The forum is now in 3.2.8.

I transfered the updated directory manually to the server and executed a database only update

thanks
