Just because your site is "down" whatever that means does not stop users and/or bots trying to access it which is why your hosts are seeing that traffic.

Bot attacks happen, it is a fact of life when running a board but your hosts need to be more proactive in stopping this - after all it is their server and they are the ones controlling/managing it.

This is the Internet and you cannot stop traffic, nor would you want to, but it can be controlled.

This is a hosting problem in my opinion and if your hosts cannot, or will not, do what you are paying them to do then it is time to find a new host.

Ok thank you, I am actively looking for a new host but i dread the process of migrating this large database including an attachment folder that is so large that even FileZilla won't display all the files inside the folder. I am looking up instructions on how to do this with SSH.

If you have any recommendations for a good host that will be very welcome.

Thank you.

We cannot really recommend a host, but we do recommend that you visit WebHostingTalk.

Kualo are working on the migration now. So far they've been very responsive. That's promising. Thank you for the suggestion!

Superior support I can say, based on my experience.
Response time is approx. 5-30 minutes, based on 2 calls (in 2 years).
Migration should be for free as far as I know.

Awesome. They're migrating my site for free using SSH (site too large to use cPanel) for free.

If your site is running phpBB 3.1.xx tell them to set PHP to 5.6.40 only for it.

They will do it in the .htaccess file.

Then please consider to upgrade to 3.2.8 and use PHP max. 7.2.xx.

Great, thank you for the advice. And yes I intend to upgrade phpBB after I've migrated the site.
