login issues

Post by sakm » Fri Nov 29, 2019 10:18 am

I have recently made some changes to my board and since then some members are having login issues!

I have changed the default style which shouldn't have an affect and I have had this style installed and using it myself for years with no issues

I also changed DNS to cloudflare which I thought cloudflares caching was the issue but I have dissabled all that and still having issues

The first thing I did was ask all those involved to clear their cache and delete cookies which made no difference

I have even gone as far as renaming the cookies which still didn't work

I have changed "session IP validation" from A.B to None which again made no difference

I can only assume its a problem at the users end as all members would be having the issue but its only a select few!

I think the next step is to change DNS back but this defeats the object of me using it in the first place!

Any help welcome

Try swapping to the default prosilver style & test.

cloudflare has been kicked in to touch and styles have been reset and still no difference!

What about getting the members to delete all “Remember Me” login keys would that make any difference at all?

I had one of my members use a device thats never been on my forum before and on his return he still had to log back in!

So I have had them clear cache and cookies try a different browser and computer changed my DNS remove the remember me login keys changed cookies!

Could this be related to sessions at all?

I made a account on your board and tested a little bit, but no problems with Firefox.

Its not everyone its just a select few users so you may not see a problem at all

There must be a connection between that few users.

the connection may be that this users have saved a favorite link for your forum which contains the session ID and/or may be they use browser sync with their mobile devices. The session ID is the most common reason for such problems.

If they delete their favorite links, close and open new their browser, login than by typing the address manually - does it work?

My 2 cents: Whether an extension is in the CDB says nothing about its quality. It is more important to read the support topics for it. Better to avoid authors who do not answer support questions themselves, who do not update their stuff, and who do not fix bugs for years.

Well they havn’t really, the board your reporting has a different/modified style to the other. For instance this one doesn’t have quick links and the second one does. Did you swap back to the default prosilver style to test?

Could be, you can try clicking ‘delete cookies’ and renaming the cookie name by changing the last number. It may also be worth changing the all uppercase part to lower case, I don’t know if that will make any difference but it’s worth a try.
