How can I block this type of request?

I've been getting a lot of this in my server logs:

[edited to remove SQL injection code]

Seems to be an attempt at SQL injection. Is there an effective way to block such requests in .htaccess without breaking forum functionality?

Have a look at NinjaFirewall and CIDRAM. Both linked in my sig. You may also want to deploy CloudFlare.
