Hi All I'm busy installing the latest release and am stuck on cmod settings? my host is 123-reg and as far as I can find it seems my public_html root directory permissions are too secure to read the htaccess file? I can't get onto my host as they seem to have put a "too many attempts" timer on my replies to support ticket lol
Is there any way I can get past this? I've gone right through the given instructions which seemed to miss of cmodding the Forums directory I put the installation in which is set to 744 recursed then set all the folders requested back to 644 as per installation instructions.

thanks for the quick reply janus, its difficult to link to a board thats not installed yet but here's the link to the directory anyway... www.kayakfishinguk.co.uk/Forums/
I don't think I'd have access outside of the public_html folder to edit settings would I? I'll recheck the perms now ta update: oops just realised I can access the public_html folder, sorry been a while for me
just set the public_html folder to 755 recursive and bam am in! its still going and I'll need to redo the install folders back to 644 to progress but it looks like thats all it was cheers Janus. I'll report back once done.
Does a DB need to be pre installed for the installation? I can't seem to create one in the 123reg site?
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

Its not a VPS (had one) when I create a new DB in their site it uses MariaDB (new to me) and either gives a blank screen or says I've used all my DB's up and says 0 available yet also displays 1/5 used? the installations just waiting for the DB details which I can't give lol
update: got into ticket support and asked them to add a db for me giving details of login cheers mick edited accordingly
I'm sorted guys cheers for the quick help, my host had to create a DB for me and gave me the details, building forums now...just remembered having permission copying issues last time I had phpBB so I might be back lol
