Support Request Template
What version of phpBB are you using? phpBB 3.2.5
What is your board's URL? https://www.advancedelements.com/phpBB3/
Who do you host your board with? dedicated server
How did you install your board? I used the download package from phpBB.com
What is the most recent action performed on your board? Conversion from phpBB2
Is registration required to reproduce this issue? Yes
Do you have any MODs installed? No
Do you have any extensions installed? No
What styles do you currently have installed? No answer given
What language(s) is your board currently using? en
Which database type/version are you using? MySQL 5
What is your level of experience? New to phpBB but not PHP
What username can be used to view this issue? No answer given
What password can be used to view this issue? No answer given
What actions did you take (updating your board; installing a MOD, style or extension; etc.) prior to this problem becoming noticeable? unzipped new install, in browser updated, then tried to convert several times.
Please describe your problem. Attempting to convert phpBB2 data to newest version phpBB3, every time I try the CONVERT option it walks me through everything looks ok. It seems to finish with no success or fail messages and refreshes me to the /install/app.php/install page. I can see the new tables in the database there is data imported into them, but the board will not work when I go to /phpbb3 it bumps me back to the install page.

Am I missing something, why is there no completion message at the end of the convert process. Thanks for any help...

An option to try is to upgrade to 3.0.14 first and then to upgrade that to 3.2.

Nomenclature:

2.x to 3.x - "convert"
3.0.x to 3.1.x or 3.2,x = "upgrade"
3.2.x to 3.2.x+y = "update".

Then the upgrade guide could be updated. ;)

Or maybe I'm just wrong.

No, strictly converting is the word which should probably be used if we want to make a distinction, after all the phpBB3 database is not same database the procedure starts with (the phpBB2 database).
But we've using update and upgrade specifically making the distinction between moving to a higher minor version (update) and moving to a higher major version (upgrade). Linguistical definitions don't work very well in computer language and in this case one could argue that the original object remains in the state is was so strictly speaking it wasn't even converted, nor upgraded nor updated.
I prefer classifying phpBB2 to phpBB3 as an upgrade (but that's personal and just for practical reasons - e.g. to avoid ambiguity).

Thanks for the replies...

Installed 3.0.14, ran converter, failed on avatar path (which was a warning before in the newest version), added avatar path to old 2.0 version tried again and it finished the conversion. But still can't access the board.

"Conversion completed

You have now successfully converted your board to phpBB 3.0. You can now login and access your board. Please ensure that the settings were transferred correctly before enabling your board by deleting the install directory. Remember that help on using phpBB is available online via the Documentation and the support forums."

Removed install directory and then attempting to access /phpBB3 shows the site homepage, may be a .htaccess rule, /phpBB3/index.php is displaying the board. so I almost have it.

Seems like it is a combination of setting avatar path in the old 2.0 version and removing the install directory.

OK, I almost have this, but still one issue...

After all the steps I still can't get the url to work:
https://www.advancedelements.com/phpBB3/

Redirects to https://www.advancedelements.com/phpBB3/install/app.php

I have renamed the install directory and the config.php has the constant set.

@define('PHPBB_INSTALLED', true);

Whatever I do it redirects to /phpBB3/install/app.php

If I specify index.php it works:
https://www.advancedelements.com/phpBB3/index.php

Any ideas on how to get it to work without specifying index.php as I already have many external links to https://www.advancedelements.com/phpBB3/

Thanks for your help

It did seem to be a hard refresh issue, reopened browser and it is working.
Did a complete redo with version 3.2 and 2.x to 3.2 convert works fine.

Thanks, this is solved.
