IMG tag not "closed"

Post by eugy » Sun Oct 01, 2017 10:08 pm

Hi, all,

I just noticed that in 3.2.1 (but I don't know WHEN this happened 1st time) img tags aren't closed.

In older version they are.

May I know why this decision was taken ? It's just a curiosity.

The reason is because I use a VB program to do some stuff in my forum content (it reads, get posts, elaborate them and make a scoreboard) and that end tag was necessary.
Not a real problem, I've noticed any image now ends with alt="Image">, I've modified my code, but I was thinking that close that tag could be better.

I repeat, it's just a curiosity :-)

Cheers

they are always closed.

I think its because of the browser you are trying to use.

HTML5 vs HTML4 thing ;) HTML5 is very loose with its tags meaning that you do not need to close tags that are self closing anymore.

phpBB3.0.x used an XHTML doctype which required empty elements be closed. Since 3.1 the doctype used is for HTML5 which doesn't have this requirement.
