Templates?

Post by nolitaflat » Tue Oct 10, 2017 6:52 pm

I'm so frustrated and I've been working with this program for over a day now.

All I want to do is find a template so I can create my own theme. I want to change my background, my banner at the top, change the forum colors. That's all I want to do.

I've read things about downloading themes and renaming them and then going in and editing the configuration files or something like that, and I can't even begin to follow along.

I understand HTML and CSS pretty well, but I can't even find those for the theme.
Please help.
TIA

How long would you normally take to customise bulletin software, like phpBB for instance, to your satisfaction?

Oh, my work is never done. I'm always tweaking little things here and there.
BUT What I was getting at was finding the CSS was taking forever. I eventually found it after re-reading the help topics over and over. I copied the prosilver theme and saved it as a new one, was able to start customizing my site. Didn't understand that I had to edit it through cPanel.
My only problem now is changing the size of the site logo, that I can't seem to find in the HTML anywhere. But, I'll figure it out in time. (unless anyone gets what I'm talking about and can help me find the specific folder or file that's in ;) )

Take a look at this for the logo:
viewtopic.php?f=556&t=2400421

Not sure what you mean by editing it through cPanel but you should download the file, edit it and upload it via FTP and then purge the cache in ACP, General tab.

And only use a GOOD text editor like Notepad++

See Knowledge Base - Tools needed to set up and customise phpBB.

Thanks guys! working on the logo thing now....

I'm editing it through cPanel on GoDaddy, rightclick edit code. It's working out fine, but I wasn't aware I had to take the code off and put it into a notepad or something!

I'm not as advanced as you all, so forgive me for sounding incredibly naive and basic lol..

You need to download the whole file you want to edit and then open it with one of the text editors suggested above.

After, you re upload the file (keep backups of the original files in case something goes wrong) and then purge the cache in the ACP.
