Whatever happened to Avalanche?

Post by simbasounds » Mon Jan 29, 2018 1:27 pm

Avalanche, a Material Design style by Komidesign looked very promising.
My client selected it for his client's PHPBB revamp.

We are ready to get started but the style has been taken off ThemeForest.
Was there a problem with it?

Thanks!

ps. I'm too new here to contact Komidesign directly, but obviously it goes without saying that Komidesign is probably best positioned to answer this question.

We do not support styles from other websites. You would need to seek support there on Themeforest.
Komidesign has not visited here since last September.

Thanks Brf. I completely understand.
The culture of a forum is worth defending.

ps. his profile is visible, but frozen on ThemeForest.
Apparently there was an Avalanche..

KomiDesign removed their portfolio due to the owner's career change.

I'm hoping to roll out a theme that was similar in design in the next few months. Until then, I would highly recommend the Milk Theme

Milk was second on their list if I recall : )

There seems to be an error when launching the demo:
Fluid + 'Simplified' Forumlist + Both Sidebars

General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysqli ]
Access denied for user 'planetst_milkv2d'@'localhost' to database 'planetst_milk_v2_demo_4' [1044]
An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists.

(should we be discussing this here?)

Yikes. Seems I accidentally nuked the database, whoops!

That particular demo has now been restored. Thanks for the heads up :)

411 we are also working a a new default theme which will use a lot of material design principles but is a lot further out then christianโ€™s most certainly as it will introduce a new theme framework to the software which takes a lot more time to build from scratch. https://area51.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopi ... 6&start=10 Look for more information to come in the future

I'm pretty new to forum software. I've been heavily in WordPress land, now branching out into js frameworks, starting with Vue.js.

As such the Base_l framework really seems to be the way forward.
It looks like an excellent methodology with its use of ITCSS.

I can see how - certainly in contrast to the current phpbb methodologies
it could easily be adapted to variety of layouts,
and be extended or extend the functionality dynamically.

Please don't.

Default framework designs should be plain and lightweight, eg: https://en-gb.wordpress.org/themes/twentysixteen/

If you try to ship a beautiful/elegant default theme, that's only to make it more difficult for style Authors to customise.

Ideally a properly modular framework would allow the stylistic element to be detached from the functional and structural parts.

Or style and structure as separate from the functional core, which in this case would consist of PHPBB plus the core framework's bindings and directives.

I think when it's purpose-driven as it is here - the purpose being to model and view the forum-as-controller - then a system like I've conjured up here seems like it would be 1st prize. But having conjured it up, then I would say that. Self-validation award ๐Ÿ† thank you.. me.

I kind-of assumed it was how I've described it. I'm not experienced enough at this point to review how it actually works in meeting my imaginary criteria.

Too little, too late. It's been in the works for quite a while now. Guess you'll have to completely revamp your styles once the new one comes out.

Yeah I'd always expected that to be the case. It's definitely something I can personally work around, but needing to un-do a bunch of flashy default styling in order to create something unique won't promote more style Authors to enter the game.

Prosilver is an excellent example of this.

Thatโ€™s why I said principals not design ;) the design will be basic the big thing Iโ€™m focusing on is proper element responsiveness and more flex able layout structure
