Changing names of items in navbar header

Post by jcapice » Sat Jun 23, 2018 5:29 am

I'm looking at the default prosilver style 3.2.2. I want to rename the links in the navbar, for example change "Private messages" to be just "Messages"
The navbar html has

Code: Select all

<span>{L_PRIVATE_MESSAGES} </span>
But I can't figure out where L_PRIVATE_MESSAGES refers to. I assume I can just change that whole thing to the text I want but I'm wondering if there isn't another cleaner way of doing this I'm missing.

Thanks

use ftp, go to the languages folder, pick your language, most of the time it will be the common.php file.

only use a good text editor. not word, not dreamweaver etc. a text editor only.

find the relevant listing, they are alphabetical,

in the case of the private message one it would be this line:
'PRIVATE_MESSAGES' => 'Private messages',

edit the right side. leave the single quotes don't use any apostrophes.
be very precise in your edits because even one tiny type could make the whole board not work properly.
make backups before you start.

luck,
robert

L for language! I knew it was something that would make me feel dumb when I got the answer. I went through all the style sheets and templates.

Thanks
