Robert,

Yes. I see it now. All of the visible pages are php files

If all the visible pages are php files, might there be no actual html files?

Thank you for your help.

ok, lets try again.

example:

you click on the index.php file, here is what happens.

the code in the index.php file tells the board to call the overall_header.html file, the index_body.html file, the forumlist_body.html and the overall_footer.html file
It also calls all of the data from the database like what you have for the sitename, the site description, header background colors and logo.
It also calls the list of forums and and any other data that it needs to display the index page.
It puts all of that together and displays the index page in your browser.

I think you are still looking at this like a normal html web page. there are no normal html web pages in phpbb.
it combines html templates with data from the database based on what you are asking it to show you.

I don't know how to make it any clearer than that.

luck,
robert

Does it involve php files?

I have searched all .css files in styles/prosilver/theme and replaced all apparent text color specifications with #000000. Here is the result:

https://www.futurebeacon.com/Forum/

You can register and see the colors on other pages.

I have yet to find a way to alter the size of fonts or change them to times new roman.

How may I do this?

Thank you for your help.

Look in the css file for font-family: and add "Times New Roman" before the rest of the font listed after ":" f.e
before

Code: Select all

font-family: Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;
after

Code: Select all

font-family: "Times New Roman", Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;

Look through all but I think it's gonna be mostly content.css or common.css

Mannix,

I was able to alter the font family and font size generally but not the heading. Ised inspect element and found this:
Inspect Heading.png
How does one find the HTML file that this is depicting?

Thank you for your help.

that would be in the overall_header.html file
just fyi:

anything that has to do with colour or images is usually found in the colours.css file
most everything else that is common to all the pages will be found in the common.css file

etc. etc.

once again, if you get your inspect element to show up correctly you will see all of that css info.

Robert,

Is the overall_header.html file something that can be found, downloaded, or modified?

How?

Thank you for your help.

yes, it is one of the template files that we have been telling you about.

A style is made up of the template folder where the html files are located, and the theme folder where the css files are located and where the folder named images is located.
all of this is on the server that you access using your ftp program just like you have been doing all along.

You should really consider and install another browser and see if the css info shows up f.e in chrome it looks like this:

Mannix,

I recently learned that I can click on tools and then web developer and then inspector and get a better setup. The display seems to have the box to the right in your picture but below (just formatting).

The problem I have is that I don't know how to select options and interpret what is in the box. Maybe it is all self-explanitory, but I don't see anything that tells me how to modify that HTML file or even what its name is or even where it is.

the whole purpose of it is to see and adjust the css, not the html.
if you want to edit the html then you have to look at the actual html template files.

once you look at them you will see what part of the page is controlled by which html file.
basically the header section is the overall_header.html file
the index page center section is the index_body.html file
the forum listing is the forumlist_body.html file
the footer section is the overall_footer.html file
etc. etc. etc.

the html section of the inspector is mainlly so you can click on different parts to be able to tell what css is controlling that part of the html.

robert

edit: as to the layout of the inspector, there are many buttons across the top of it, click on them until you get the layout that we are talking about.

Robert,

Thank you for this very illuminating information. I found that I could edit the files you mentioned, but I only placed a blank line after /head as a test. The second line printed on the front page of the forum is this: "A short text to describe your forum." I want to delete it. I see it in inspector. I don't see it in the files you mentioned but what may be going wrong is that when you say "the actual html template files" I am going to styles/prosilver/template which many be the wrong "actual html template files." Is this true?

Thank you for your help.

Jim Adrian
