Trying to change banner to custom

Post by OnlyinaChevy » Sun Sep 16, 2018 9:56 pm

New to this forum, not new to forums as a whole, but customizing my forum is tougher than I thought...v3.2.2

I'm going blind trying to figure out where I've gone wrong after reading so many different threads on what seems to be a simple project.

Uploaded the new photo (transferred via CORE FTP LE)
Image

Did my due diligence to the colours and commons folders, respectfully:

Yet the standard and original prosilver "site-logo" still appears, even though I deleted "site-logo.gif" from the images folder.

Did you refresh the browser? The CSS files will be cached, also note if you are using service like Cloudlfare they will be cached there too. Try holding ctrl and then hit F5 if the refresh button doesn't work.

Yes, the browser has been refreshed. I also cleared browsing history to see if that made a change in it. No dice.

I am using GoDaddy for my web hosting...which I'm not very satisfied with at the moment for this particular site that I own, while they've been fairly good for the other site of mine. My friend did the banner changes and all the other ext add ons/mods for the other site, so I am trying to figure this one out myself.

So, when you say "cached" in Cloudfare, what does that mean exactly?

EDIT:

Went back and found this:
Image

SO...the phpBB has been replaced with the same color of the banner I tried to install. I should guess that I only changed the emblem on the standard banner as opposed the entire banner. Seems like I need to look at that code again and change where I made the edit.

Looks like a size issue,

How big is the banner you are trying to upload? phpBB doesn't resize the image so you will need to make it the right size for you,

If it's a big banner, HifiKabin's Header Banner extension would resize the image for you and be responsive too.

ok, first problem is that your logo image you were trying to use in prosilver is a png image but you just renamed it to a gif. you can't do that. change the file ext back to png
then change the file name in the css file to site_logo.png

secondly, that image is 7200 × 2000 pixels you need to resize it down to something that would actually fit on a web page.

I don't know what you have done about the logo in the digi style but that style is very hard to customize because it does not use normal css files.

I didn't change the logo on the digi style because I plan on deleting that style from the forum eventually.

I resized the image that I put in the image file to 1080 by 213, or so I thought I did. Seeing as you have listed the exact size of the original banner @ 7200 x 2000, it makes me wonder where I went wrong there as well. I did originally rename the issue to site_logo.gif, but as you stated above, reclassifying the image to a gif from png wasn't the answer. I will work on it tomorrow evening and see what I can screw up even further....lol

Hopefully I'll get it right this time with your suggestions! Thanks!

Birthday and a full four days of being laid up in bed being sick, plus my normal 55 hours of work has hindered my trying to get this changed by your suggestions. I'll try to rethink it and change it tomorrow after work and post my results or other issues that I cause. Thanks for your patience.

Until something else pays the bills...work comes first, then fun can be had.

Ok, so I deleted the GMTruck.....rrow.gif and copied over the same file, renamed before I copied it to site_logo.png. Made sure the dimensions were width of 1080 x 213 yet no change. I'm just code stupid.

Now I don't even have that little blue square that I had a couple weeks ago.

not sure what you have done. if you go here:
http://www.gmtruckaddicts.com/forum/sty ... e_logo.gif

you will see that that image is still gigantic in size and still named site_logo.gif

so, apparently you have not made the changes you thought or not to the files you thought etc.

If I use your URL and add in what I want, I get this:
http://www.gmtruckaddicts.com/forum/sty ... e_logo.png

Did I adjust the wrong line of code?

After a little bit of research, I think I know what my problem is. And while I don't know anymore how to fix it, maybe y'all are misunderstanding what I am trying to replace. I'm not trying to change what's in blue....I wanna change what's in red.

ok, now the problem is that your colours.css file still says site_logo.gif
you need to edit that to say site_logo.png

purge the cache, refresh your browser.
