Own icons, how to not overwrite when updating

Post by Holger » Mon May 06, 2019 10:55 am

Hi, I am sure this is a stupid question, but I have an own set of icons for read, unread and so on.
When updating phpBB I always have to replace them again or leave the theme-folder out when uploading the new phpBB-files.

How can I avoid that?
"Substyle"? Or is there any other way?
I just want to upload phpBB and still have my own icons in place.

/Holger

As those icons are part of the default style, easiest way would be creating a child style of prosilver overwriting just the icons

If you are familiar with german, you'll find a detailed description over here: https://www.phpbb.de/kb/create31style

Can I also add a new part in the footer (for example) that always shows up there even after updates?

Edit: Hm, I followed the instructions in the link above but the new style does not show up in the ACP
The description tells me to upload the child style INTO the prosilver-folder.

I don't think that is what is intended.

just create a copy of prosilver, rename the folder and change the style name in the style.cfg file.

then replace the default icons/images with yours.

then delete all of the files and folders from the templates folder.

then upload and install this new style just like any other style.

then set it to be used by whoever you wish.

when the next udpate comes along simply do the full replacement update method and manually edit any of the css files in the theme folder of your child style.

done.
