the one thing that i dont get is why did google build chrome? when they fund firefox?

It's probably a matter of "they can". On top of that, most Google projects start as private employee projects. There's a chance this was in the pipelines before they ever drew up a deal with Mozilla.

They didn't forget about either. Both Linux and Mac are being worked on, they just aren't as far along as the Windows version.

I think jwxie was talking about Yahoo!'s branded version of Firefox.
