I had been advised a while back that Crimson Editor was best because it saves without BOM, which is neccessary for writing php files.

However, I don't like Crimson too much, for various personal reasons. :)

I was wondering if anyone knows of any alternative free text editors, that will save without BOM?

Many thanks.
Hey buddy, why you dislike Crimson, it the best text editor. I have checked 3-4 text editors, but from all those, Crimoson is good. Editpro is also my second choice.

Crimson hasn't been updated in 5 years, however it is open source now.

I use Notepad++, I haven't tried anything else but I do find it the most useful. :)

I don't use a simple text editor anymore...used to use Notepad++.

I now use the Eclipse IDE, with the PHP Development Tools plugin, along with Subclipse for working with SVN repositories. ;)

BIt late to the discussion but I am also adding myself to the excessively redundant list of Notepad++ users here :lol:

I'm another late conversion to Notepad++ and find it so simple, but must admit that phpdesigner, which I used before, is better for advanced coders (which I am not).
