Yes, the fifth poster did.

As for me, I'm on the Notepad++ side of things. :D

I'm curious what the dev team is using...

My favourites :

Windows : Notepad++
Linux : gedit

By the way, for Linux users who talk about Vim, emacs, gedit, kate and nano : The topic poster is under Windows, so unless he decides to go Linux, it's not be of any help for him if you suggest Linux tools who aren't ported to Windows, especially if you don't mention at all that they are Linux tools.

On my web server, I have a built-in program for code editing. It resembled Windows Notepad and has a simple look and feel to it, but it works for what I need. I also have a code editor that numbers lines of code and color-codes them so I can more easily see what I am doing. It's nice for working with PHP and HTML. I don't know how many people have something like this on their web servers, but I'm banking that many people do. However, I know that a lot of people prefer to code files locally, and so this would only be good for someone who likes to code files and view the result online like myself. :)

I used to use DreamWeaver, got fed up with it because it kept crashing on me randomly, even on a fresh Windows install.

So then I installed a copy of Ubuntu on a separate partition just to use Gedit...

Then I built a new computer, and heard about Notepad++, and I've been using that ever since.

I'm considering switching back to using Gedit mostly because of the lack of full regular expression search and replace support on Notepad++. Gedit doesn't fully support it as much as Notepad++ does, but it supports it far better. I'd expect a power user text editor to support regular expression almost better than most programming languages, mostly because I find myself writing more complex regular expression algorithms to replace a bunch of stuff in a text document than I do for programs I write. I have yet to find any program that supports regular expression as well as PHP's preg_replace function (I think it supports it completely, almost). (For Windows Vista)

But then again, regular expression is probably irrelevant to most users seeking a good text editor. I'm a pure addict to using it, and have a hard time living without it. :P

So, I suggest Notepad++.

that is not a text editor and if you use it to edit phpbb files it will most likely corrupt them.

Actually it didn't, you could save in UTF-8 without BOM, it was my primary editor of PHP files for the first 4 years I used PHP. It isn't a pure WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor, and supports code coloring of PHP files. I would find it quite odd that something that goes beyond the average text editor to color code a language would not properly save in formats it is compatible with.

As seen here: http://moltendorf.com/transfer/random_s ... OnCode.PNG (Developing probably the worst application I've ever created, with serious injection vulnerabilities, as described in phpBB's latest blog post)
