@moltendorf
You might be able to edit phpBB core files in dreamwever. Though you wouldn't be the first who runs into serious trouble down the road.
Therefore we advise to only use a true plain text editor to edit phpBB core files (note that I'm talking about phpBB files not php files in general), and not those fancy editors like Dreamwever.

For most pages, Dreamweaver works like a charm. But I find that for language files...not so good for the most part.

That's why I don't use it any more (for the past two years I have stuck to Gedit, and Notepad++). :)

never heard of sourceinsight, however, notepad is a text editor, it is not a web site creator/maintainer

or project creator etc.

dreamweaver is also not a text editor. It has that function but if you do not know how to use it exactly right, it will corrupt the phpbb files and you won't know what is wrong with your board.

I seem to be the only one who really likes the Crimson Editor. I'm using it for over a year now, works great, and it has all what I need. :)

Crimson Editor is nice. I used it for a while and then I found Eclipse lol. That's been my editor ever since.

5 years ago when I was using Windows as my primary OS I used to use Crimson for my editor, it hadn't been updated in a while then though not sure if this is still the case.

Yes, the last time it was updated is out of Sep. 2004. But it still works good, and has a nice interface.

I use Notepad++ but recently i come across WebCipher 2009 this editor has a built in FTP, can do PHP, CSS, and HTML. Its only Alpha 1 but the next release will have a project manager built in too, currently that's disabled.

If you didn't say a name and listed the features I'd say it's PSPad, with the difference that is stable and well-established :)

Coda is a PHP/HTML web editor. It is awesome because it has a built in FTP client. This supports many languages such as AJAX, Javascript, PHP/HTML, HTML, Perl, CSS, SQL, XML, Ruby, Python, Objective-J and any more. However this is for Mac OS X.
