Okay, it's been a while since my last post...I've converted to using Komodo Edit. Lot more powerful than Notepad++, and I love it.

Well I use three different programs for different needs. I use TextEdit for general looking and editing of text files, usually for notes. I use Xcode for python programming and Editra for PHP, HTML, CSS and Javascript.

I first used phase5 as an html editor. Since don't know then, I'm using Notepad++.

I go hardcore.....i use plain Notepad. ;)

That's not very good at saving UTF8 files without a BOM...

I use Notepad++, but I'm looking into others for comparison. For what it's worth, anybody looking to do the same may want to have a look at some of the ones mentioned here.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned jEdit. It's platform independent (a Java program so can be installed on any OS, I keep a copy on my jump drive), has built in auto-tabbing and code highlighting for 130 languages (including recognition of reserved words and built-in functions), and my personal favorite feature, allows customizable screen splitting to display multiple pages simultaneously.
