Making friends online...

Post by Green Light » Fri Jan 23, 2009 5:59 am

I was wondering since I don't have much friends in general, and most of my friends are online buddies...I wanted to know where you meet friends online...

IMO, myspace are more like for friends you already have rather than meet new ones.

So what do you do to meet new friends. :?:

Well you're meeting people on this forum right now, I do have real life friends (it's good to have real life friends) but online I talk to real life friends on MSN and I sometimes talk to people on forums.

I never liked Facebook, MySpace and Bebo for meeting people you don't know (can be dangerous), I think it's best for people you know.

LOL, me and my real friends just make fun of those dudes on live... :P
I made a few friends when I was younger playing Runescape (mmo)
I still talk to one in particular...

Meeting people on forums I wouldn't say we were friends... I guess just members of a community? :?
When I mean friends, I mean like I talk to you, not just question coding and help people out in support.. lol

I wouldn't ever suggest anything online as a good place to make friends, but I actually have  due to a forum that I frequent. The forum was started for fans of a radio show, but operates more as a general community with the theme of the show. After years of knowing these people, then a meet-up at a live recording, some of the other members really are my best friends. Actually, when I started my Facebook account, these were the only people I had as friends... it was a bit odd a year later when "real life" old friends from school started adding me!

Alright, feel free to mock me now. ;)

:o

btw, to all, do not think virtual friends are really 'friends' (I mean literally) .. a very friend he/she's something else, I do not have all the words necessary in order to explain entirely the real concept, but.. ;)

I would definitely agree that in most cases, a friendship or other relationship forged online can be superficial. It is difficult to know a person entirely when they are able to provide only some information about themselves, or mask the truth about their identity. I am really not an advocate of meeting people, friends or potential mates, over the internet.

But I'd say that the key to making friends, whether online or in the real world, is to go places where there are people with similar interests and values. Find something in common and build on that. :)

Like I said I have a good friend that I met on a game.. I have some pictures.. and of course we talk on the phone.. I guess you have to be trusting to give out your information like that.. but over 5-years I'd say I trust her ;)

I wouldn't suggest giving personal information like phone numbers to anyone you meat online.. I did but I was like 12 or 13 at the time.. we still talk.. it's actually more of a friendship now than before.

.. I'll be moving out of the states soon.. so I guess I could start going out side.. though I wouldn't say the country I'm moving to is that safe.. :?
I just want to be older so I can move to my Dream country Canada :P

@RMc dude, I knew it was a joke.. ;)
I didn't take your advice seriously.. I hope you knew that as well ..
