Advertising on a new forum.

Recently started a forum, less than a 100 membership at the moment.
Wondering if any of the phpBB community can suggest who to approach for advertising on the forum?

Or is there a way to make any money out of the forum in general?
Am in england and its just a general forum consisting of discussions in sports, health, community etc and a buy/selling section.

Any help or idea's will be welcome and thank you for reading.

My reply was perhaps too short. For Google AdSense to work, a lot of your topics will have to be about something. Google will look through your forum and try to figure out adverts that match the content. So if your forum is full of helpful advice about things, then you might get a bit of cash (you get paid when your users click on the links). If it's full of incoherent emoticon wars, then Google will have a lot of trouble trying to find a relevant advert to display, your users will be less likely to click on them, and you may be better off with another solution.

yes my forum is help orientated. so adsense should work for me.

but you mention maybe other solution, any further ideas will be appreciated.

Attracting sponsors can be quite lucrative. Depending on the subject you could approach related companies with info on your site, the users and visitors stats and see if they might like to sign up for a sponsors forum and banner for a few dollars a month. Go cheap to begin with if it's a new site. Or offer them a banner for free for the first 6 months etc.

It depends a bit on whether you want to just cover your server costs (fairly easy with google ads) or if you want to make tons of money (often unlikely unless you have tens of thousands of members).

i just want to cover the costs.
but now that you've mentioned the banners/sponsors, wll have a good think on it.
