Sometimes when the Snipping Tool is not enough, i.e. I need to capture an entire webpage, I go with the FireShot IE plugin, also available for FireFox (or vice-versa whichever you prefer).

There are many softwares which offer this type of capturing screenshots. most of them include draging and dropin by holding the alt keys. hold down the left click, and just drag mouse over area

I am using Screenshooter for a while now, and I am very satisfied it. You have an option to choose to capture your whole screen or just the place you want, also it uploads the screenshot to the internet automatically. You can download it from here http://screenshooter.net/

I always use the PrintScreen button and paste it in IrvanView. Then I crop the image there too if needed. Sure it's not the fastest way but it worked very well for me.
