Well, I was treated to a Windows 7 (32-bit) Home Premium Upgraded today, so thought I'd pop by and share my analysis.

Overall, it's extremely pleasent to use. Everything (specifically searching) is very fast, very accessible and very stylish. Plus, my most often used software seems to be working without fail (7-zip, Dreamweaver & photoshop CS4, Smart FTP, iTunes). So overall I'm really pleased :)

I was however disappointed with how long the upgrade took. Approximately 6 hours on my machine, not sure whether it was my fault (laptop spec) or Windows', but it was a very long time to be without my laptop. In addition to that, UltraMon doesn't work with 7, which means for the time being - no dual screen :( .

...can anybody suggest an alternative to Ultramon, that supports a taskbar over both screens? :)

Edit: So it seems the latest version(s) of Ultramon support Windows 7, although I'd still be open to hearing alternative suggestions.

I'm a fan of DisplayFusion, myself. Simple, lightweight, powerful, and well designed.

It's no doubt that you should choose win7. It's faster and effective than vista

Windows 7 is a vast improvement from Vista mainly because my PC does not crash or slow down as much in 7.

I was just helping someone troubleshoot an error in Vista today. I've had nothing but problems from our users with it. Definitely go for 7.

Windows 7 has a pointless RAM limit on the cheaper versions to make the more expensive versions better.

You probably wont need more than 8GB of RAM but it's pathetic for Microsoft once again.

Why do they have so many different versions, anyway? It's stupid.

It would be better to have have a Personal and Business edition at the very maximum.

It may be stupid to you, but you're not the one they're thinking about. Remember, Microsoft is out to make a profit.

If you have to ask, then you don't understand what the point is.

Some features are not required for the general population, but still need to be developed nonetheless. You therefore have the option of buying the version that includes the features you need, without having to purchase the features you don't. Or, if you want/need everything, then you can pay for everything.

Also, there are only 4 versions and a convenient graphic with checkmarks explaining what each version contains. If you're confused by this, then you need the cheapest version.

I personally bought the ultimate version.. I needed the professional (since I need it to work with AD) but for €30 more the ultimate offers more than one language...

Unless you need multiple languages then you pay for everything, daft.
