Looking For The Best Most Powerful Free CMS To Use

Post by cmshunter »

A few years back I ran a little e107 CMS site. I always wondered why all the forum software out there wasn't making CMS additions because I thought it was the future and the only real way to setup a good community website for posting news and having people come in and comment on it before going to your forums to hang out and whatnot.

I've been looking around recently and have seen CMS popping up everywhere all over the place. The past couple of minutes ago I've come across several new ones I've never seen before but look like they've been around for at least a few years. Ones like modx, vbulletin, drupal, cmsms, and I hear cms is coming to invision and so on.

I'm posting here because I'm taking a pit stop trying to compare all of these and which I think will be the most powerful. I think PHPBB is awesome so hopefully I'll be able to integrate it into whatever I use. I hope. Mind telling me if there's even more quality CMS out there I haven't mentioned yet? I'm aware of Joomla and Wordpress but those I don't like very much but they seem to be the most popular for some reason.

Which do you guys think is the most full featured, secure, efficient, and supported? I'm assuming vbulletin is the best out there but I'm wanting to start off free.

Edit:
I'm going with Joomla. Seems to be easily integrated into phpbb. I didn't want to touch it after hearing about recent security exploits but I guess I'm going to go ahead and go with it since it's way more active than any other free CMS. You guys can comment still about others if you want.

CMS of course are a matter of personal taste and preference. If you're looking for something that integrates well with phpBB, the one that immediately comes to mind is Joomla, with RokBrodge being the system that ties them together. But because Joomla might not be what you're after, have a look at http://php.opensourcecms.com/scripts/sh ... %20Portals for a comparison of CMS.

Thanks I was just about to look into how to actually integrate phpbb into joomla. Yeah I came across the opensourcecms site and looked up the list of cms on wiki. I was like, "OMG what is this I don't even..."

Just by reading comments Joomla, modx, and drupal all look great but there's EVEN MORE that look equally great as well. I was browsing some of the Joomla showcase sites and came across one that was apparently hacked with evil music and the reaper. Kind of discouraging especially since it looked like it was hacked this month...

There's also a bridge for Drupal that's in beta.
http://drupal.org/project/phpbbforum

I have never used it though, so I don't know too much about it.

i"m using that in a live site, works just fine for basis user sync.

as for the topic starter: go with Drupal, you can do anything with it.. and if you use the views and cck modules you can make some powerfull filters...
