Is "using DOS" an essential part of the plot?
Windows 3.0 was released in 1990, and Windows 3.1 in 1992, so was certainly around in that timeframe.
(Windows for Workgroups 3.1
had native network support, and came out on Oct 1992)
If it has to be "using DOS", the the networking software was more likely to be Novell Netware
