Tinypic shutting down

Post by Sajaki » Thu Sep 23, 2010 10:39 pm

i just saw this today.

http://www.tinypic.com/
Tinypic is no longer accepting uploads from international locations, and links are turned off. If you have content on Tinypic, you can still view the URLs and the content, but only on Tinypic. To upload, share, or link content, please go to Photobucket.com to register an account. You will need to upload your content again to your Photobucket account, but you will be able to share and link your images and videos. We’re sorry for the inconvenience and hope that you enjoy Photobucket, our premier image and video site
grr.

So basically 90% of all images i ever posted are broken now :o

time to host ones own ?

Interestingly enough, I am still able to upload images there without an issue. Perhaps they are simply intending to prevent international users from uploading things?

Correct Phil. It is only International Uploads that have been closed. As myself and many of my friends can still use the site and we have not gotten that message.

PhotoBucket is better though. Tinypic is just a quick way to upload screenshots without having them in an "Album" over at photobucket haha

I'm sure Tinypic will stay up for a little longer, but yes, many forum owners will find that many images on their websites are broken.

Another reason why I'm against external services like ImageShack.us, Tinypic, TinyURL etc. I can still remember the ImageShack.us incident. Just imagine if that image was an inappropiate image instead?

i for one ip-banned tinypic and photobucket from my site. i'm sure others will follow. basically shutting off a service to non-US/UK/AUS users without notice is totally unacceptable. The internet is not supposed to only work properly in 3 countries.

Interestingly, as a UK resident I'm still able to use TinyPic as normal.

That's right, until they went and added reCAPTCHA to uploads. At that point it just became annoying, inaccessible and slow.

Captcha is the reason I do not use that image host anymore. :(

But if you register you can upload up to 5 images together with no CAPTCHA thingy..

Tinypic has been my favorite and first image host, but it looks like those days are over.

I also use Photobucket, but the only problem is the limits they have such as disk space..I upload a lot of images and exceed the bandwith limit almost every month !

imgur is a good image host replacement. (even though they have limits as well)

I hate it! Tinypic is my favorite host for images, and now I can't upload anymore :(
