I choose phpBB because out of most of the forum softwares, this is the best and easiest one to operate. Non of the others compare (IMO)

Well im sure the OP is aware that they would get a lot of answers for phpBB

now i have tried mybb, smf, vb (even though thats paid). And i have to say im not impressed with smf's functionality, mybb just dont seem to suite my taste and vb was hugely complex.

Maybe its because ive hung around phpbb since it was 2.0, and now that its evolved into 3.0.9 it works just beautifully for me.

Borderline necro-posting I know but I felt the need to comment. ;)

EDITED

I was waffling like a tard, let's just say I'm in love with phpBB3 and wouldn't worry about any other software from now on. :)

Are there any advantages to phpbb?

It seems that mybb doesn't have different themes or templates to choose from. You have to alter their CSS style sheets to change the colors of the theme, which is complicated.

But they do have a reputation feature where users can rate posts and users, which is nice. I wish phpbb had a mod for that.

I can think of several advantages. I even made a list :S --> http://chenschool.elementfx.com/phpBB3/ ... p=phpbbsmf

phpBB does have a reputation mod, along with other post-rating mods (Thanks for Posts and Ajax Like)
