We use affilate banners and have arrangements with different companies that sell products that support our subject manner'
Original we were just hoping to cover hosting costs, but it's now gone well past that.

I earn just exactly the same amount as I make for writing mods/extensions. Absolutely zero.

Same here. My forum is an advert free zone and will remain that way. Nothing makes me back away from a site faster than not being able to see the content for the adverts.

Wrong. I don't feel the need to turn everything I do into a commercial venture. Some things I choose to do for fun, they're called hobbies.

I earn nothing, I do on the other hand not have any costs, other then the domain, either as it is right now.

I don't really care about earning money from my forum, it's more of a hobby at this stage. In all honesty it is not even a widely used forum, with little to no activity at the moment (I don't really spread the word about it around so I don't really expect to gain users in a near future either).

Agreed
The 3 'real' fora that I own are:-

1) My Extensions
2) My Music and HiFi forum
3) My wifes 'friends' forum

1) is done for fun (if you can call swearing at lumps of code fun  )
2) is mainly for music recommendations. (so I get as good as I give)
3) Its for friends.

Like others have said, not everything has to be 'money making'. Some people like to buy beer/women/drugs for their fun. How much does that cost compared to hosting a fora of two? (my 3 fora, one test forum, several static sites including family history costs me ~£0.26 a day. Less than a chocolate bar/coffee/newspaper. Not bad VFM IMHO

So is the purpose of your forum just to pay for it self?

That makes it a bit hard for me to suggest what you could advertise, our forum is for cannabis growers,so we have arrangements with different seed companies, our members are always buying different strains, they pay no more by using our links(Sometimes pay less) and we get a commission from the sale.
2 months ago we got a check for just under a 700 euro's,normally we average 300-350 euro's a month
And we only have less than 500 members
