That's a tragedy. It's surprising more people weren't killed in the pandemonium. Lucky that such a competent policeman was near the scene and dealt with the problem successfully.

Do they have any idea what motivated this lunatic to storm a rock concert stage and shoot the guitarist 5 times before firing into the audience? Even lunatics have some kind of motive, even if it makes sense only in their own minds.

AFAIK, they believed that DD caused the break up of Pantera.

Holy shit that is horrible. DD was/is one of the great Metal guitarists of all time. Some of my freinds are going to be very sad about this. Good thing i dont live in that state because i could have been at that show even though i dont like damageplan. Ive seen them because i have freinds that like them and Pantera.

I don't know if I'm correct or not, but was last night also the anniversary of John Lennons murder?

I'm really quite curious about the cop. Does every night-club come stocked with one? Or was it a suicide conspiracy which both the marauding loonie and the cop were in on?

The article makes it appear he heard the gunshots/panic and investigated.

CNN wrote: "They are in charge of their own security inside," he said. "There are times they hire off-duty Columbus police for parking lot security -- we are prohibited by law from working inside a liquor establishment -- but last night there were none."
it appears he wasn't inside during the shooting anyway.

/me thinks the hero was in an adjacent dougnut vendor's place of business.

I heard this on my way into work this morning... and then I just switched the radio to my CD player and put in Vulgar Display of Power.

Of all the metal shows I've been too, I've been thoroughly checked. I've been patted down twice in some occaisions, put through metal detectors and have had my cellphone examined like it was a bomb or something.

That's really sad news, as Dimebag was one of the best guitarists of the past few years.

However despite what someone said earlier, it is actually quite easy to sneek something into a concert despite the security. They will pat you down, but I have rarely seen them actually look into something if they feel anything(my friend once had a pipe in his sock, the guard felt it and never questioned it for a second, despite the fact that it could have been practically anything). Even seeing high profile bands like Metallica, it's suprising as to how lienient they actually check for anything. In the future hopefully things like this can be avoided simply by a bit better security.
