Microsoft wants to be close to developers, Even those who use programing languages and operating systems that do not belong to it.
First they released Visual Studio Code and support all active open source programing languages in it. And now Github. Microsoft wants to know how developers think? How to make developers prefer Windows and other Microsoft programs?

At all I think Microsoft will work with open source best than Oracle, Which killed MySQL and Java.

I didn’t realise mysql was dead especially after all that money Oracle threw at it.

As open source MySQL is in continuous degradation, very late bug fixing, no new features.

and yet it is still the most widely used database type for web applications in the world.

Following this logic I'd say Microsoft and Diesel are "dead", too.

I just emailed support in relation to this innovation.
Hi there,

Thanks for contacting GitHub Support!
if I downgrade my plan from Pro to Free for my private repositories, will they not become public?
No, they remain private repositories. The free account has unlimited private repositories, but there are some limitations, such as being able to have a maximum of 3 collaborators.

You can see the additional features you'd maintain on the Pro plan here:

https://help.github.com/articles/github ... l-accounts

Should you still wish to downgrade, please feel free to follow this guide:

https://help.github.com/articles/downgr ... lling-plan

I hope this helps and if we can be of further assistance, please let us know.

Cheers,

Gitlab website says their free plan has unlimited private repositories. Is that true ? If so, how many collaborators ?

This is about Github, not about Gitlab. But to answer your question, they also have a pricing model online

Microsoft invested a lot in open source lately. As a matter of fact, the biggest project hosted on github is ... the open source replacement of dot net framework: dot net core. And it was already the case before buying them.

And yes Microsoft today is no longer the Microsoft from the nineties...
