What do you have to say about the EU Commitee approving Article 13 (We're half there in the decisions) today and the fact that the provider of, in this case, the forum must apply an upload filter to prohibit copyright infrigment.

Has this been discussed here yet?

Not the least bit bothered. It will be impossible to police, it is not law yet and by the time it is we (UK) will be out of the EU.

This will just degenerate into another GDPR discussions with nobody knowing what to do or even go about it.

In any case it is not a phpBB problem - it is a board/site owner's problem.

I see they’re on about banning memes so, as far as I’m concerned, that’s a plus. Every cloud has a silver lining :D

This is about ACTA 2.0.
I do not understand why this is. Probably for large corporations trading in copyright.
Or maybe for politicians, the internet would not write about them badly.

It seems that law makers in the EU have been going a little bonkers lately in all different areas.

though the new rules have been approved by the EU's JURI commission, they will not go into effect until they are passed by the European Parliament. Campaigners urged MEPs to reject the regulations.

If you ask me, this is rank BS. But I don't live over there so it's not my call.

I actually wish they went after Windows 10. Perhaps Microsoft would have to create a "European version."

from the article linked by olsserik
Article 11 introduces a "link tax", requiring that internet companies get permission from publishers to use a snippet of their work. On websites like Google and Twitter, for instance, a small part of the article is usually shown before someone clicks into it entirely – but, under the new rule, those technology companies would have to get permission and perhaps even pay to use that excerpt.
I notice it says "Internet Companies"
so Internet Companies would have to get permission, not Fred Bloggs who started a phpBB3 forum on 'who's Cat looks the daintiest' , he is not an Internet Company

I wonder if the people who make up these stupid rules/laws have ever been on the net in any way other than posting their personal information facebook.
