I agree as long as we at least keep the current speeds instead of the 56k modems etc.

And while we say now "I'd never let them put a chip in me!", remember that those same people ten years ago would never carry a device that allowed government to not only track them but also to see and hear them anytime they want to.
People are forced to do so more or less: using my credit card these days require me to have a mobile phone, as all other transaction authorization methods are considered "un"safe. Likewise today I need to solve Google's CAPTCHAs on multiple occasions just to be able to pay my money.

Will be the same with brain implants: it's all fine and handy, but exporting data to exchange it or back it up is a case nobody will think of.

That would scare the sh*t out of me. What kind of backup would need to be taken? Full Backup? Incremental? Periodicity? What about if I die... Can my backup be used in someone else? Who can access my backups and discover all the bad things I've thought about, or can I have certain parts deleted?
Come to think of it, some individuals already can't function in daily life if their "smart"phone 's battery is low.
I see the value of "social" media but IMHO it rules the life of many and in many cases doesn't function as a time-saver anymore but is a time-gobbler.

I'ld like (in a way at least) to be able to say that I'm old enough that it won't affect my life anymore, but seeing how quickly everything changes I won't bet on that.
Having said this, just a couple of weeks ago I read a couple of articles by some thinktank group examining the (realistic) possibility of getting rid of physical cash altogether and a 10 year timeframe was mentioned.
The future looks bleak (to me).

yep, I first got online in 1995 had a 28k modem until the 56k modems came out and got affordable.
used netscape because I did not even know that win95 came with a browser ( I got lucky there since I never used IE since.)
netscape came on 2 or 3 floppies and cost 49 bucks US.

I got addicted to the web. I wouldn't even go to work sometimes just because I had been up all nite browsing. there was just so much information there to see/read. every link clicked lead to so many more links and more links etc.

I loved it, still do.

Same here. I was online in '95, but never had a computer at home. Parents couldn't afford it. So in 2003 I finally got my first laptop, plugged in the phone line and went to Windows 98's dial-up settings and found a dial-up provider and happily handed over my credit card Info. I browsed the Internet for hours not able to get any sleep and thus I was late to work. It eventually got me canned.

Your holiday trip: whatever you see you also want to have as video to show it to others. Next obvious thing would be ego perspective porn. After all Strange Days might become true, just like a few things from Back to the Future Part II have become true as well (big flat screens, drones, everybody's distracted with himself while having dinner...).

Our first modem was 28 too. How did we cope?

Didn't own a acoustic coupler, but my first modem was a internal 14.4k card modem - and I nearly spoke Hayes in that days
