Spam bots

Post by Linsa » Fri Sep 27, 2019 3:45 pm

Most often, spam comes from Russia and Ukraine when they register on my forum, even more recently it has come from the Netherlands. The email address bot registers for being weird but is it possible for bot to register with gmail?

I usually check IP that they bot register from and then there is always a list online that it is spambots but now it is one from India who registered and it is not blacklisted. I wonder if anyone with VPN or TOR registered and got an Indian IP?

Yes they can register with any email.

What's better is to stop them at the registration page with a good antispam measure like using the Q&A for a question you cannot 'google' the answer to. There are sme extensions that offer alternatives but Q&A works fine with the right kind of question.

Sorry to say it but Indian IPs are very very rarely real accounts on boards outside of that country. I've never had a real account from there in 20 years.

semrush and ahrefs bot. What are they doing? All the time 24/7 there are at least 40-50 of them on my forum. Are they necessary?

They are indexing your site so it can be found on the internet when people search for it.
