Blocking countries

Post by nhseacoast »

Does it make sense to block countries via .htaccess that would likely not have any use for my board? Would it help with bandwith, speed, etc?

I don't think so. Although international travel isn't happening now, what happens when your board members are travelling internationally and would like to visit/post?

As there are no defined ranges of IP addresses for any specific country then you would have to have multiple ranges in your .htaccess file and eventually you would notice your board slowing down.

Read through Blocking aggressive Chinese crawlers/scrapers/bots as this has been a common discussion point here since last November or so. If it applies, read through the comments because there have been improvements in the implementation.
